The main inspiration for this work has been my love for skiing. Living in the Pacific Northwest, has blessed me with access to areas like Alpental, Crystal, Bachelor, Steven’s, Hood, and Whistler, to name a few, each of which has imprinted its particular mark in my creative process.
As I advanced my skills, I was naturally drawn to the challenge of backcountry skiing. I’d long heard the rumors of the mythical knee deep powder stashes. However, like any magical world, it’s not easy to arrive there, and the journey can be dangerous. Avalanches are a risk for any snow explorer. These paintings are personifications of the thrill seeker, and how they manage the risk.
